- $100 application processing fee per permit.
- A permit application must be submitted for each activity.
- If repeating the same activity over time, the PI can submit a multi-year permit application.
- FWS recommends PIs allow six (6) months of lead time before an anticipated import/export activity when applying for a permit.
Multi-Year Permit
- If submitting a multi-year application, the PI must submit annual progress reports.
- Amendments must be submitted to add more species, and/or increase numbers.
- Permit can include opportunistic species collection the PI wants to import.
- PI should list the maximum number of specimens and all species they anticipate needing to import/export.
- PI can start out with a permit for the duration of their project, e.g., 1-3 years and renew, if needed.
- Some PIs have a permit for 10+ years and renew annually.
Fees
- Permit application processing: $100
- Annual renewal fee for multi-year permits: $100
- Amendment fee to add more species, and/or increase numbers: $50
Application Process
- Application Form: Import/Export/Re-export of Biological Specimens (3-200-37e)
- Allow 90+ days for FWS to initiate the review process for a permit application.
- The more information the PI provides the faster the permit is processed.
- FWS is prompt in issuing findings, if there are any.
