RECR Rollout Schedule
RECR Education and Rebranding
The Scholarship and Research Integrity (SARI) program has been rebranded as the Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR). This change clearly reflects the program’s purpose and aligns with federal and institutional RECR requirements.
We are pleased to announce three new RECR Educational offerings:
- RECR Orientation*: To broaden access to RECR training, the ORP is pivoting from individual class or department orientation presentations to regularly scheduled RECR orientation sessions.
- Introduction to IRB Workshops*: To ensure IRB training is available for classes and programs requiring this information, we will also offer mid-semester workshops on IRB submission.
- *Faculty and programs can opt to use the RECR Orientation and Intro to IRB Workshops in lieu of having an ORP Educator attend an individual class session.
- RECR Modules in Canvas: A ready-to-use collection of curated RECR materials from reputable sources, available as an importable package or stand-alone course managed by the graduate program. Please email orp@psu.edu if you are interested in using these modules are part of an existing or stand-alone course.
- RECR Workshops (not new): Our spring and fall semester workshops will continue, and there are no longer limits on hours earned through ORP workshops.
Additional information about each new educational offerings can be found on our main RECR page.
Graduate programs may continue to use their own RECR training to fulfill the 5-hour RECR training requirement, or they may opt to leverage ORP-provided offerings, or a combination of both. ORP will update student RECR records in LionPATH for completion of the ORP RECR orientation and/or RECR workshops that are offered by the ORP, simplifying compliance for both programs and students.
These offerings are designed to meet the high training demand, alleviate the need for programs to develop their own RECR instruction while reducing the burden of tracking and updating student records in LionPATH.
Action Item & Rollout Schedule
All graduate programs must complete a new RECR plan using our updated form. This form is designed to be agile and flexible, allowing programs to make updates at any time as their needs evolve. Submission of the new form is required for all programs, even if no changes are planned.
