To further support Penn State's mission of “research with integrity,” the Office for Research Protections is establishing a standing committee composed of faculty members with relevant subject matter expertise to assist with Research Integrity process. This process, outlined in Penn State Policy RP02, is not only a mandated requirement of the receipt of federal research funding but is also an essential part of preserving the integrity, credibility, and ethical foundations of research conducted at Penn State.
Supported by the Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and the Senior Vice President for Research, this initiative will provide strategic training and support for faculty involved in research misconduct proceedings. It also offers meaningful opportunities for research and service that may contribute to promotion and tenure review.
This initiative was developed through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Research Integrity, in collaboration with The Ohio State University. Based on benchmarking and faculty responses to surveys and focus groups, our research indicates that a standing committee enhances faculty preparedness and fosters greater institutional knowledge of and trust in how misconduct allegations are handled.
