Penn State Shield Outline
October 29, 2025

IACUC Guideline 2 has been updated to provide new options for collecting biological samples for mouse genotyping: ear biopsy, tail tip amputation, and minimally invasive procedures with four non-tissue sampling techniques. The updated guideline reflects up-to-date science, alignment with current regulations, and a commitment to animal welfare. Learn more about the rationale behind the updated guideline.

The following resources are available to assist with implementing changes to workflows and CATS IACUC protocol submissions resulting from Guideline 2 updates:

  • IACUC Program Staff can guide mouse users during protocol and amendment creation: orp-iacuc@psu.edu
  • ARP veterinary faculty and staff can advise mouse users on adapting existing workflows to align with the new Guideline 2 and Standard Procedures. They can also provide hands-on training on these procedures. Email  arp@psu.edu or call 814-865-1495.
