Strategic Interdisciplinary Research Office (SIRO)

SIRO provides coordinated expertise to grow and support research at Penn State. 

SIRO offers expertise developed from a decade of successful support to University faculty in the professional preparation of proposals and management of funded projects.

What does a typical SIRO project look like?

SIRO Supported projects typically involve significant efforts from multiple faculty spanning two or more colleges, campuses or institutes. Projects often involve other universities and international partners, or are of strategic importance to Penn State. SIRO services are available to faculty at all Penn State campuses.

Our Capabilities

SIRO works in consultation with faculty, department heads, deans, and research institute directors to determine the level of support necessary for each proposal or project. Below is an overview of our services, for a complete list of services please see our Service Request Form.

Award-Winning Proposals

Pre-Award

Strategic Support

to assist with the development of non-technical sections such as education and outreach, diversity and inclusion, workforce development and more.

Management of the proposal development process

including the organization of documents, creation of templates, and writing/editing of non-technical sections.

Research administration

including budget development, the collection of supporting documents such as letters of support and CVs/biosketches, compliance review and submission.

Additional services

such as the development of graphics and figures and assistance with compiling institutional data sets (training grants)

Working with SIRO

SIRO carefully coordinates all support activities with research administrators and financial officers across colleges, in Research Accounting, and the Office of Sponsored Programs.
