Administrative Council on Research (ACOR)

The Administrative Council on Research (ACOR) is a community of research administrators at Penn State, guided by a leadership group of senior administrators. ACOR serves as a forum for collaboration, offering training, policy development, and discussion of emerging regulatory requirements to support the research administration community. Members work together to improve efficiency while maintaining the integrity and excellence of the Penn State research enterprise.

History

The Administrative Council on Research (ACOR) traces its origins to the Council of Research, established by the Board of Trustees in 1928. Its original members included Ralph D. Hetzel (President, 1927–1947), Frank D. Kern (first Dean of the Graduate School, 1927–1950), and Robert L. Sackett (Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture, 1915–1937).

In 1957, the Council of Research was replaced by the Administrative Committee on Research (ACOR). That same year, Michael Farrell, Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture, became Penn State’s first Vice President for Research.

In 1972, ACOR adopted its current name: the Administrative Council on Research.
